From Mabel Mae Brown:
*Willa Mae Steenman 1947-2012 (Indiana/Ohio)

William came to America when he was 11 in 1896. They came to this country so that William's older brother wouldn't be drafted for the war. Holland was at war at that time with their colony Indonesia and were drafting down to the age of 16.
The day his brother turned 16 they went to a Catholic Church and waited until time to leave. William laid on the pews with a blanket.
Upon arrival in America they entered through the port of Philadelphia then made their way by train to Fort Wayne sometime after that.
William worked at the GE plant in Fort Wayne where he retired from.
His first wife Cecelia died of cancer.
His 2nd wife Mabel had 6 kids already from her first husband who had died in a train wreck. They agreed to be buried by their first spouses which they are.
William met Mabel while working at GE on a break. Mabel's Church had baked food for the workers working extra hours for the war (WW2). When William tasted the cookies she made he had to meet her. The rest is history.
William was a Catholic and a Republican who really liked President Eisenhower according to my mother. William is said to have died of a stroke.
