Arnold was born in Straslund, Germany and came to America in 1882. Was living on St. Anne Street in New Orleans with his brothers in the 1890's after their parents died in the 1880's.
Apparently he went to visit Germany by himself at age 15 in 1895 based on ship records.
A relative in Germany from his mothers line told me a story passed down from his grandfather
Arnold Bockengahen III
Big Al's 1st couisn

about them and that they and had heard about what happened to their parents in America and lost touch with them after that. I'm guessing that maybe Arnold was sent over there to see their relatives and told them.
He was a grocer who had his store over in Lacombe. His brothers were running the store initially in New Orleans but both died at the turn of the century in the same year leaving Arnold the inheritor of the business who moved it to Lacombe for some reason.
In 1905 he had the only phone in Lacombe hanging on the wall of his store where people would go to use it.
It also appears that he may have been buying real estate in Memphis, Tennessee.
His draft card for WW 1
